Richard Every one of the songs in this album go hand in hand. Even with the delightfully varied atmosphere of each song, you can play them in any order, and it feels like it was meant to be played that way. The imagery in each song is very vivid, and makes each listen a joy. Favorite track: Locked In A Room.

Hope Mansion Recordings Like probably thousands of other people, I discovered Oren Lavie through the stellar video for "Her Morning Elegance". His vocals are incredibly warm and emotive, and it's not just "...Elegance" that impresses me--it's one of the finest song collections I've heard in quite a while. Favorite track: Her Morning Elegance.
Anthony Childs

Anthony Childs Classy. Textural. Well-produced. Subtle. Interesting lyrics that probably work well without the music (always a bonus). He's overdue for a new album in my opinion. As in, I'm looking forward to it. Favorite track: Locked In A Room.

Sun been down for days A pretty flower in a vase A slipper by the fireplace A cello lying in its case Soon she’s down the stairs Her morning elegance she wears The sound of water makes her dream Awoken by a cloud of steam She pours a daydream in a cup A spoon of sugar sweetens up And she fights for her life As she puts on her coat And she fights for her life on the train She looks at the rain As it pours And she fights for her life As she goes in a store With a thought she has caught By a thread She pays for the bread And she goes... Nobody knows Sun been down for days A winter melody she plays The thunder makes her contemplate She hears a noise behind the gate Perhaps a letter with a dove Perhaps a stranger she could love And she fights for her life As she puts on her coat And she fights for her life on the train She looks at the rain As it pours And she fights for her life As she goes in a store With a thought she has caught By a thread She pays for the bread And she goes... Nobody knows And she fights for her life As she puts on her coat And she fights for her life on the train She looks at the rain As it pours And she fights for her life As she goes in a store Where the people are pleasantly Strange And counting the change As she goes... Nobody knows

Look at the sky It belonged to a guy That I know And I thought I forgot Long ago Look at the trees Didn’t stop at the top Not for him Used to borrow the wind For a walk Look in his eyes for a dying flare Look for the wind in his yellow hair And pretend you See the man who Isn’t there Look at the sea Used to save all his waves For hellos Used to climb Up his highs, down his lows Look at the birds Used to flock as he walked Through the street Used to fly down And march at his feet Look in his eyes for a dying flare Look for the wind in his yellow hair And pretend you See the man who Isn’t there Look in his eyes for a dying flare Look for the wind in his yellow hair And pretend you See the man who Isn’t There.

On the opposite side of the sea The opposite side of the day The colors are brighter and glee The people unusually gray On the opposite side of the sun The ground is too hot to stand on Too hot to stand on so they run On the opposite side of the waves The edge of a town to be saved And quiet by night it’ll keep For those who still dream There’s no sleep On the opposite side of the sea You’ll find her But the waves will pull you under On the opposite side of the sea You’ll find her But the waves will pull you under On the opposite side of the wind A woman is wearing it thin The opposite side of her skin On the opposite side of the blue Some people are waving at you They say it is love that they’ve got You’re almost convinced but you’re not On the opposite side of the sea You’ll find her But the waves will pull you under On the opposite side of the sea You’ll find her But the waves will pull you under Reach your hand out Someone’ll take it Strip you down and leave you naked That’s what they do to strangers, you see That’s what they do to strangers, you see On the opposite side of the sea

Locked in a room With a sink and a broom And the walls are all white But you think it’s all right Because of a wonderful picture Of a bridge which is covered with frost And a man comes across Locked in a room It is nothing but walls And you search for a chair But there’s nothing at all And the one thing you find When you look at the floor Is a key but there isn’t a door Now that you’re locked in a room There is room to assume You are there for a cause You’re not sure what it was When you’re locked in a room Locked within a room, a memory Locked within a room you stand Locked up away, with no light of day Locked in a room you begin To find your way out You find your way in Locked in a room With your memory far You don’t know where it is But you know where you are In the dark of a room With a wall out of which Comes a lamp but there isn’t a switch Locked in a room It is small, it is not It is empty and cold So you fill it with thoughts Of a wonderful nature And in various sizes, you doubt You could think your way out And now in the room, ‘cause you’re locked And the moon is no clock And when nobody’s speaking The silence is ticking When you’re locked in a room Locked within a room, a memory Locked within a room you stand Locked up away, with no light of day Locked in a room you begin To find your way out You find your way in Locked in a room With a sink and a broom And the walls are all white But you think it’s all right Because of a wonderful picture Of a bridge which is covered With frost And a man comes across...

Ruby Rises 03:32
Ruby rises at dawn With a sigh and a yawn And a dream lingers on In her dream she’s a swan With a cloud over head Ruby swims out of bed She removes from her hair Monsters made out of air And she screams with no sound As her feet touch the ground As her feet touch the ground She’ll be a morning shadow She’ll be a morning shadow With the sun that rises She dematerializes Ruby rises at dawn With a sigh and a yawn And you search for a trace But there’s none in her face Of the thoughts that she keeps They are lost in her sleep They are lost in her sleep She’ll be a morning shadow She’ll be a morning shadow With the sun that rises She dematerializes

The road stretches on From unknown destination Across open streams Through fields of carnation It enters a city, a building It stretches ahead It stops at the feet The feet of his bed He’s aware of a small inclination A dream in a dream He pays no attention Oranges hover And faces all over He knows Is how the dream goes Caught within a dream Within a dream A man within a man Caught within a thought Within a thought And oceans so deep He will drown in his sleep The wind whistles low And the windows are yielding The telephone rings In the opposite building A voice with a likeable, Unrecognizable air It runs in the walls It isn’t quite there He’s aware of a change in the weather A dream in a dream He’ll think of it later A wonderful melody line That he couldn’t quite get He couldn’t remember He’ll never forget Caught within a dream Within a dream A man within a man Caught within a thought Within a thought And oceans so deep He will drown in his sleep

If you only had been physical But you’re cynical And you won’t let as much as a touch Be a touch If you only had been lyrical But you’re logical And it’s making you sore When I talk metaphors ‘cause trouble don’t rhyme Trouble don’t rhyme Well they do sometimes They do sometimes If you only had been curious Not so serious And your grammar is right But your structure is strong And nothing belongs ‘cause trouble don’t rhyme Trouble don’t rhyme Well they do sometimes They do sometimes If you only had been physical But you’re cynical

Sweet melodies Breaking on a sullen ear Will endear And bring memories Sweet melodies Sweet melodies Cross an ancient battle field Soaring still And clean memories Say a short goodbye A short goodbye now A short goodbye now... Sweet melodies At a trembling finger stroke Will evoke A skin memory Sweet melodies Sweet melodies Paint a quiet evening pale And a trail Of white memories Say a short goodbye A short goodbye now A short goodbye now...

Don’t let your hair grow too long Leave your yellow raincoat on Don’t get wet But don’t get warm Don’t change the time on your watch Always reach, but never touch Stay a picture on the wall Don’t let your step grow too bold Don’t let your hands go too cold Don’t forget, but don’t recall Keep that distance in your stare Leave your step up in the air Always near but never there And stay a picture on the wall

Blue Smile 03:45
Black clouds in battleships Are covering the sky The sky a purple cry A philharmonic sigh The sky would disappear The sky would disappear You know it’s somewhere near Today you wouldn’t share the sky ...is gone Goodbye Blue sky You made me happy for a while And how you gave me Your blue smile A bird is often heard And hardly ever seen A sound that’s sweet and round And lingering between... A sailboat by a pier The sky that disappeared You know it’s somewhere near Today you wouldn’t share the sky ...is gone Goodbye Blue sky You made me happy for a while And how you gave me Your blue smile

Too late, somehow It’s quarter past wonderful now And I say What have we done to ourselves I mean, what have we done? Got nothing new Telling me, telling you And the sky isn’t blue Like the blue that we knew Don’t know how But that Something extra delicious Something sweet but nutritious Something good But I guess that we blew it I mean I guess that we knew it I mean I guess that we did Don’t ask me how It’s quarter past wonderful now And I say What have we done to ourselves I mean, what have we done? Got nothing new Telling me, telling you And the sky, it is clear But it’s no longer here Don’t know how But that Something extra delicious Something sweet but nutritious Something good But I guess that we blew it I mean I guess that we knew it I mean I guess that we did
